Biography
I have
never known life without art. I have enjoyed painting and sketching since I was a
child. My artistic talent was nurtured by my father who encouraged
me to acquire an education in the arts. Today, I continue to have the support
and encouragement of my family and friends. My studio is a large room
filled with light from its many windows. It invites me to paint nearly
every day. I love to
paint all kinds of subjects such as the many flowers from
my own garden. Some of my favorites are flowers, leaves, and foliage
from Hawaii. I also photographed
birds, chickens, and turtles on Hawaii. I paint landscapes and seascapes
from California,
Hawaii, and other places I have traveled in the world. I also paint
still life and people. There are many different techniques in watercolor
and I have fun
trying them all. Wet into wet is challenging to say the least.
Traditional transparent watercolor
is one of my favorites, along with dry brush. Watercolor paintings
that are more opaque use lots of paint and give a feeling of acrylics.
There are also many types of paper that can give a painting a different
feel and texture.
I continue
to take classes from long time professionals such a Lian Quan Zhen and
Ken Hosmer. My watercolors are shown alone in galleries as well as in
a group called “Brushworks”.
I hope you enjoy my watercolors as much as I enjoy painting them.
